Diamond League: Letsile Tebogo cruises to 100m win in 9.87 seconds in Rome
Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo stormed to an impressive win in the 100m at the Rome Diamond League meet.
The Olympic 200m champion eased off with 15m to go and glanced back at his competitors as he crossed the line in 9.87 seconds.
Former world champions Christian Coleman and Fred Kerley, both of the United States, finished in second and third with times of 9.92 and 9.95 respectively.
Great Britain’s Jeremiah Azu was eighth in 10.17 as home favourite and Tokyo Olympics champion Marcell Jacobs came last in the nine-man field.
Daryll Neita, a silver medallist in the 4x100m for Team GB at the Paris Olympics, was third in the women’s 200m, clocking 22.46, as American Brittany Brown won in 22.00.
Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi ran the second fastest time ever in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, a brilliant eight minutes and 44.39 seconds.
